A Gentle Comics Habit
Live from tarmac traffic at Newark Airport
The airport is my favorite place to write. Especially around the holidays. I like looking for other people’s version of excitement and dread for visiting loved ones. I saw mom and her college age daughter unpack stacks of Tupperware to munch on at the gate. A dad just letting his kid tire herself out running up and down a ramp with a hello kitty carry on. And a dog stop and squat to do her business right at the boarding line.
All of them equally fascinating. This place is a breeding ground for stories. Why do you ever need to make anything up?
I’m starting #agentlecomicshabit today. I’m pretty sure Sophie Yanow started this a few years back on her blog.
The idea is every day you add an extra minute to drawing a daily comic every day. It’s okay to miss one day but never two in a row. The point is to make the task so stupidly easy that it would be silly not to do it everyday. It’s about consistency NOT perfection.
This is my first minute drawing. I cheated and drew another one that probably took 5 minutes (above). Oooppss 🤷🏻♀️
I’ll post tomorrow’s in notes. But just wanted to share the challenge with y’all!
happy drawing from tarmac at Newark Airport! ✍🏻
*Note: I wrote this in the Substack app and it didn’t send any of the photos or links I put in the article haha so consider that if you ever want to use that in-app function.
